Peter Wayne Lewis' exhibition at 447 SPACE opens to the public on September 13, 2024. This one person exhibition of Peter’s major works plus new pieces will run through October 25, 2024. Viewings will be by appointment only with www.447space.com.

The works in this show are infused with Lewis’ love of String Theory, jazz, spirituality, Chinese calligraphy, and large-scale Abstract Expressionist work. Whether large-scale or small, his production is spacious as he reconnoiters experiential volume. The physicality of his gestural work conveys spiritual experiences and sensations. Lewis is attracted to ideas that parallel his cosmic journey. Like a string on a piano, his pieces vibrate on a note, a cosmological constant. The visual intensity, sonic metaphors, and action of the body affect the emotional encounter with the work. The process of painting and encountering the work is all-encompassing. 

Peter Wayne Lewis was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1953. His earliest sensory memories are the sights and sounds of Jamaica from music and tropical fruit to the flavorful culture of Chinese migrants. His father was a jazz musician who imbued him with rich sound. In 1962, his family moved to California, ultimately settling in Sacramento. Lewis studied art at San Jose State University attaining an MA in Painting in 1979. As his career momentum increased, Lewis showed regularly at galleries in New York, California, Germany and Japan. He now paints full-time, splitting his time between studios in New Jersey, Beijing and Southwestern France.
